What is an SE session like?

A Somatic session offers a calm, supportive space where you can slow down, relax, and explore. You may come in with a specific issue you’d like to address, or we may focus on something that has emerged in your life that day.
Sessions often begin with orientation—gently noticing your surroundings and your relationship to them. Somatic work is not traditional talk therapy, though conversation and personal story help guide us toward felt experience. Once a sensation or emotion emerges, we shift our focus to the body, which is the foundation of somatic work.
You’ll be invited to stay with and gently explore these sensations—sometimes in ways that may feel new or unfamiliar. What matters most is what you are sensing internally in the moment. This could be a pleasant sensation, discomfort, or even numbness. While this may sound simple, staying present with sensations can be surprisingly challenging. Over time, however, you’ll develop greater capacity to be with whatever arises.
A core element of SE is pendulation—the natural movement between states of discomfort and comfort. Rather than staying in difficult material, we work in small, manageable pieces, moving back and forth between challenge and ease. This process helps your nervous system learn, through direct experience, that sensations and emotions are temporary and changeable. As a result, it becomes easier to approach difficult topics without fear of getting stuck.
Every session, regardless of the material explored, ends in a place of resourcing and regulation. In practice, this means we return to supportive or pleasant experiences more often than we visit challenging ones. The goal is not to remain immersed in trauma, but to build nervous system relief, resilience, and a deeper awareness of what helps you feel grounded and supported.
Ultimately, Somatic work aims to foster a sense of nervous system safety and flexibility. From this foundation, life’s challenges become more manageable, and change feels more accessible. While this work does not erase past pain or trauma, it can help you relate to your experiences in a new way—reducing reactivity and allowing you to live with greater ease and presence.

CONSENT OF SERVICES FOR PREMRAJ JULIAN, SEP, LMT
What I have learned and now lovingly put into practice is simply this:

Everyone
has the ability and roadmap to heal themselves completely (you are not broken)

Nervous system
healing requires a second nervous system to “borrow” as an example of safety (you need a second person to support you)

Healing
happens when you drop into feeling (somatic) and allow your feelings to move fluidly between discomfort and safety (pendulation is the mechanism of lasting healing)
